Ruturaj Gaikwad returns out of his Yorkshire duty for private reasons.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yorkshire's foreign signing, dropped out of his contract for personal reasons, dealing the team a setback.
Gaikwad was expected to join the team before their upcoming
matchup against the reigning champions, Surrey, however the precise reasons
have not been disclosed. In addition to playing the remaining Championship
games, the 28-year-old was signed to play in the One-Day Cup during his first
season of county cricket. Yorkshire is trying to find a replacement as they
linger in eighth position in the Championship standings.
According to head coach Anthony McGrath, Gaikwad is
unfortunately not coming at this time due to personal reasons. He won't play
for Scarborough or the remainder of the season. It's disappointing, then.
"We hope everything is alright, but I am unable to
provide you with any information regarding the causes. Literally, we just
learned about it. Behind the scenes, we're figuring out what we can do. I'm not
sure what we can do right now, though, because it's just two or three days
away. Time pressure is the problem, but we're working to try and find a
potential substitute."
Since suffering an elbow injury in an IPL match that
prevented him from competing in the championship, Gaikwad hasn't played in more
than three months. He didn't play despite his recovery and subsequent selection
in the India A team for the four-day matches in England.
