Cricket will be a six-team sport at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.

The International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Executive Board (EB) decided on Wednesday, April 9, to make the men’s and women’s cricket competitions at the 2028 Summer Olympics six-team games. Additionally, each gender has been given 90 athlete quotas, enabling each country to field a squad of 15 athletes.

T20 Internationals have been chosen as the competition’s preferred format, as was previously stated. Although New York is in the running to host the matches, the locations have not yet been finalized.

How the six participating countries will be chosen is unknown, and the question of representation in the situations of Great Britain and the West Indies has not yet been resolved.

In 1900, cricket made its final appearance at the Olympic Games, with only two teams Great Britain and France playing. After winning the two-day match, Great Britain went on to earn the sole gold medal in cricket at the Olympics to date.

Several international multi-sport competitions have included cricket in recent years. The 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou included both men’s and women’s cricket competitions, while the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham included an eight-team women’s category.
